The BBC produced a video (above) about Nelson Mandela’s legacy as a philanthropist.

The Hudson Institute released its 2013 Index of Global Philanthropy. This year’s report includes a “special report on emerging economies.”

The winter issue of Philanthropy Impact magazine includes articles on Muslim philanthropy and a history of philanthropy in the Middle East.

On a related note, registration opened for the World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists’ Global Donors Forum. This event has been held previously in Abu Dahbi, Dubai, Istanbul, Doha, and Duala Lumpur. This year’s event, focused on “celebrating philanthropy in emerging economies,” will be held in the Washington, DC area.

Karla Simon, writing on the Alliance Magazine blog, summarized two philanthropy conferences held China recently: China Philanthropy Forum and the Caijing Philanthropy Summit.

Skolkovo, the Moscow School of Management, launched a new center focused on wealth management and philanthropy in Russia. According to a press release announcing the new center, “One of the the centre’s priority tasks in the field of philanthropy will be creation of the mass and individual charity tools and infrastructure that would connect donors and recipients.”

Richer Lives: Why Rich People Give, a book about philanthropy in the UK, was published by the NCVO in September 2013. The organization’s blog featured a post by the book’s authors, Dr. Beth Breeze and Theresa Lloyd,  in December.
