Barclay’s Global Capital released a report, “The Global Culture of Philanthropy” (PDF), on Tuesday. This report summarized findings about both financial contributions and volunteer activities among high net worth individuals in 20 countries.  On the financial contribution list, the top countries (and, oddly, one continent) were: USA, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Taiwan, India, South America, Switzerland, UAE, Singapore, Spain, Australia, and Qatar.

A November 25 article in The Economist, (“Barbarians in Love: Global private equity firms are seduced by the China Dream“) provided an in-depth look at domestic and international private equity firms operating in China today.

Der Spiegel’s English-language Spiegel Online International has a special section dedicated to the Euro Crisis.

The New York Times described the cost of living in Geneva, Switzerland earlier this week (“Low Taxes Attract Foreign Companies to a Geneva Stretched Thin by the Growth,” November 30, 2010). This article covered real estate and general compensation issues for locals and expats. Briefly, one source interviewed for this piece summed it up: “Most other cities have a range of price points,” she added. “Here, it’s all expensive.”

The National Council for Voluntary Organizations recently opened its online Voluntary Sector Datastore and began posting large open data sets about the UK nonprofit sector in the last two weeks of November. According to its website, the Datastore is “a place where we are hoping to bring together – or should that be curate? – data collected held and collected by voluntary and community organisations.”
